Engine Swap

I am looking to put a 1986 fuel injected high output 302 into my Ranchero. I was curious about what is needed for this kind of swap and if the brain box from MSD or Mallory or a similar company would replace the brain components that went with the original mustang. Also is it possible to bypass all the sensors on the fuel injected engine and still have it run good. Would all of the fuel lines need to be replaced as well to withstand the increased pressure. One more thing would an inline fuel pump or a fuel cell with high pressure fuel pump in it, of the two which would be the best way to go. Any additional information about this type of project would be very much appreciated. Thank you all.

well, for a fuel injected motor in a non fuelie car/truck, you would need the accessory drive system, wiring harness for the motor and the computer from a donor vehicle. the msd box is for the ignition exclusively. well, all the sensors would keep it running better than tryin to bypass them anyway, but you could get rid of all the smog gear pretty easily. painless wiring makes a good wiring harness from what i hear, but you could call fms and get the whole story about what you would need. also, check your local speed shop, there are a lot of books that go more in depth than i ever could in a web post. good luck and im sure you'll enjoy it once its done.

oh, and as for the pump, you'd just need an adjustable regulator and make sure the pump is capable of giving the motor enough fuel.

I would not go with an 86 motor. Find an 89 or newer. That way u get the mass air setup--can do alot more upgrades with this setup.
