Unless you are looking for a challenge to keep yourself busy, I wouldn't recommend this. The TBI system wasn't known to be the greatest when it was new. I try not to reply unless I have something constructive to say, but I couldn't help myself on this one.

If the throttle shaft is not worn out, why don't you rebuild it? Ford 2bbls are not that complicated, and if you where contemplating swapping in a complete efi system, I would certainly think you could rebuild a carb with no problems. Just remember, just because it's shown in the exploded view on the rebuild instructions, doesn't mean you have to take it apart. Just take the main sections apart, and use that carb cleaner in a spray can, to squirt through all the little holes and passages.

I've noticed lately that when i come to a stop the engine idles high. when I tap the gas pedal the idle slows down. could this carb be completely wore out, should i just replace it with a 4bbl carb and intake. thanks to everyone who replied, scott

If you can make the problem happen in the driveway where you can work on it, hop out real quick and take the air cleaner off and see if you can figure out what is causing it. Sometimes it can be a solenoid thing that is part of emmissions making it idle high. Sometimes it can be the throttle cable in a bind. Check the return spring too. You can take all this off, and work the carb lever to see if it is wore out.
