Where could I find a piece o' rubber....?

65' 352.

1" or daimeter tube comes out of valve cover at the rear of the passenger side, bends back and over the back side of the motor, and dumps out near the tranny.

I'm looking for the rubber ring/grommet that fits in the top of the valve cover that this tube slips into.

Tried Advance off the shelf PCV stuff, none are close.

My ride has no PCV system on it (meaning no actual valve and hose leading to the intake somewhere), although I have some valve covers like the ones in this pic that I'd like to restore and put on my 65' that I could use a PCV and do away with my 1" tube.

Then I could tap the carb adaptor and run it there, but for now I'd like to find this grommet to use on my current setup until I restore the other valve covers.

Been searching this morning, but boy is it slow. Lots of valve covers, but haven't found a grommet yet....

I do not thnk that you will find a draft tube that will hook up to the valve covers, the old draft tubes on the FE engines hooked to the back of the intake, there was a about
1" hole that a extended pug pushed into that had a pipe that ran down by the back of the engine. Later FE's had a plug with a nipple there that had a hose attached to a PCV and then ran to the base of the carb.

Only chance to find the actual part is going to Resto parts catalogs(Like AutoKrafters, or the like) as they might actually have a repop of that particular grommet. Other then that...I'd just put a PCV valve in and forget it.

What I did was put a rubber grommet in the valve cover and a 3/4" plastic elbow and screw type hose clamped a hunk of 3/4" black heater hose to it, did that to each of my valve covers.

One grommet was for a new sealed-up type oil filler cap and the other goes straight into the valve cover. I cut a grove into the "direct into the valve cover" grommet so the hose would lay down there nice and flat.

Motor-Mite "Help!" numbers...
42322 grommet
42324 other;) grommet
47043 3/4" elbow

Sorry, don't have the cap number off hand. :/

BTW be prepared to be jumped and run down by others for not having a PVC system. ;)

Below the road draft tube in the intake there was a metal breather basket filled with a steel wool type filler. The basket has a lip and it's held by the machined lip in the rear of the intake. Like the guys said the PCV is a mucho better setup than the road draft tube and basket. If your dead set on the road draft tube there are aftermarket's made most Galaxie part vendors sell. HP trends has a really slick billet breather basket for $50.

Thanks for all the replies.

Not set on it at all, just thought it would be easiest.

The fixer upper valve covers have the provision for PCV, so maybe I'll go that route.

Didn't know it was called a road draft tube either..........

For the record, my motor is a 65', and it never had the thing in the rear of the intake.

Mine is off the valve cover. But of course this is on a car, not a truck, so maybe a difference there?

Thanks to all.

As long as it pulled some vacuum out of motor, it doesn't really matter where it comes from. Like mentioned, most early FE's had a plate in rear/center of intake with tube bolted to it. Not sure what year they switched to PVC?

The worst part is if you have a worn engine..it will slobber oil all over everything under the car. Makes for a nice rust free enviroment...but not a clean one!

There's no such thing as a road draft tube off a valve cover, it's some PO's Mickey Mouse arrangement.

The grommet in the right valve cover is there for one reason: to retain the smog valve.

The grommet and smog valve are the same for cars 1965/71 & trucks 1965/76.

The grommet is still available from Ford, as is the smog valve.

PCV system first installed on cars and F100/350's on 1961 CA vehicles. By 1965, the system was used nationwide on all vehicles & engines.

DoAZ6A666A .. Smog Valve ~ Fits 1965/76 F100/350 / 1965/71 cars.

MSRP: $7.13 / ftepartsguy.com price: $3.85

Bill you are the man.

It looks so stock, and with the old grommet, it looked perfectly stock.

Too odd.

Thanks for the parts numbers!!!!
