Throttle Position Sensor Issue
All -
I have a 2001 F350 dually with a 7.3 Auto combo. I have owned this truck for about a year now. It has been a great truck which is used to pull a gooseneck trailer. I have noticed a slight lag in drivetrain when starting from a stop and it has always seemed sluggish performance-wise. I mean like 0-60 in minute kinda slow. I basically got used to all that and was happy. This last week, I noticed some issues that had me worried. I noticed that the Service Engine Soon light would flicker on and off, the transmission would shuffle between 2nd and 3rd and the acc. pedal would randomly not register when pressed.
I had my mechanic check and he confirmed several codes (which I never saw). However, he did tell me that the TPS was shot and I had a bad exhaust sensor and tube.
He replaced the throttle assembly and the exhaust sensor and tube (which were pretty pricey from the stealership). However, the results are amazing!
I noticed the performance improvements immediately. The dually now feels alive! It does not have the drivetrain lag as before, it shifts between gears with more ease and generally has more power from a stop.
I am very impressed that this simply (and expensize) fix made this much difference. I can only hope I notice some mileage improvement as well since maybe the engine seems more energetic.
I hope anyone out that with these issues takes note of the throttle as a source of the problem.

Too bad you didn't check in earlier. The throttle problem was likely a dirty Idle Validation Switch (IVS) that a good shot of brake cleaner would have fixed. We recommend that all the time and it almost always fixes the "no throttle" condition. Takes three nuts to remove and re-install the pedal assembly.
The Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor and tubing are a maintenance item for all of us, but some clean them more often than others.
Stick around. There's lots of people here that know LOTS about your truck, and can talk you through most any fix needed doing, if you WANT to do it yourself.
