Info on the 08 Super Duty 6.4 Diesel
Hey Guy's I'm new here and this is my first post. Lot's of great info here also.
I'm looking to trade in my 2002 GMC 2500 HD 6.0 Gasser for a 2008 F-350 Crew Cab, Long Box, 4x4, Lariat, King Ranch, with the 6.4. Diesel.
I know it's a new motor design and I'm curious about what problems have been encountered if any so far? And what king of mileage people are getting with the diesels? Helpful tuning hints all the good stuff more info the better.
I'm looking to seal the deal by mid week if possible so all the info I can get is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Brian

I decide to go away from the diesel since it is just not worth the money anymore unless you are towing HEAVY loads all the time. I also found out the mileage sucks with a majority of the owners of the new diesels. So I decided if I was going to get 9-12 mpg I might as well save $7000 on the motor.

First of all.... Welcome to FTE
If you're not looking for a new truck, consider either a 7.3L or a later 6.0L. They're both great for towing and the later 6.0's have the bugs worked out. I've got a 7.3 and love it. Browsing through the 6.4 forum should give you a pretty good idea of some of the problems and milage that the new ones are getting.

You should check out the 6.4 PSD forum, see what those owners are discussing.
Overall, the 6.4L is a good engine, but it is thirsty.

Hey Thanks for the Welcome Twags6.
I'm also looking to purchase new if at all possible.
I did find the 6.4 forum last night, there is so much info on here it's easy to get lost.
I do realize it's a 9,000 pound truck with no aerodynamics. From what I gathered reading everything I have and talking to a few people that had them they were saying they got 16-18 with them.
I'm just wondering how that big of mieage gap comes into play between 9-12 and 16-18?

Don't buy one with hopes of getting 16-18 mpg, you will be dissapointed. A good example is here, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...s-mileage.html and it's even a 2 wheel drive.

Thanks Remmy,
I've been watching that thread also.
Luckily I have had no hopes about mileage yet just getting as much information on this as I can.
I just got off the phone with the dealer and they are offering me a remote start for 369.00 installed and spray in liner for 450.00 which to me is not that great of a deal.
I'm glad I found this site and joined. I'm getting lot's of very useful information. Thanks to everyone.
