Check engine light and power loss

Had something wierd happen today.
Was driving my van out making some stops when all of a sudden a lost power, and set the check engine light.
Had to floor it to get to 50mph.
I ended up limping it to work.

After getting to work I let it sit about 5 mins.
It started up and the check engine light went out.
I drove around the lot a little and it seemed ok but I only had room to get to 30 or so.

Any idea what it could have been or still could be?
Will there be any code set since the light went out?

i had a similar problem couple yrs.ago.checked for codes and said i had a bad injector.turns out i had a bad glowplug that shorted out and melted the injector wiring harness and would make contact at times and run perfect.truck wouldn't hardly pull it self when engine light came on.
hopefully this will help.

Hussler:
Oil should be ok I checked it friday it was at top of line maybe just a tad high if anything.
Need to check I had had a bad pan like a few months ago that I fixed.

jk:
Hope its not an injector I just changed them a year ago Oct.
Im gonna look at harness wiring. Have had some electrical problems related to fuse box.

It did burn up a starter friday but I think thats unrelated course the bad starer could have messed something else up.

Not sure if taking to dealer would do any good if code is gone?
Any way to check for code?

One problem I have is a have a serious burnt smell under the hood from the starter cooking off.

It even is stinking up my clothes just being by it so Im not gonna be able to narrow it down by smell.

I changed the harness /gaskets when I did the injectors.
So I hope they are ok but I have lost about 3 IDM's but they never set a code.
And it never got better after acting up.

The top plugs to the wireing harness can be checked visually, no sniffing required. Just unplug each one and visually check each and every male & female pin/socket for burn/melt damage.

If those check good you can check the glow plugs through the UCVgaskets, the two (2) outboard pins. the center pin is a common ground. the remaining pins #2 & #4 are to the injectors. I'm not sure if the Inj's can be checked this way, hopefully one of the more knowledge Guru's will jump in and clairify that.

Well Im not sure where Im at now.
I drove it home from work last night and it seemed fine.
No CEL light or anything.

Worked on it today and really didnt find much.

Checked 6 injectors they were 3 ohms
wiring looked good around them

checked fuel filter and it looked clean

checked air filter they were dirty but I could feel air being pulled in.

all the intakes from and to the turbo looked fine

Only thing I dont know about is a small sensor on the bottom passenger side of the air filter box.
Its cracked loose, but I dont even know what it is to know its been loose a while.

Anyone know what it is?
