Hey guys, I was rotating the tires on truck I just bought and noticed a problem. On the front calipers on my 2000 SD there is a hose going into a fitting to the rear of the brake line on each. Not sure where they go from there as it looks as if they just connect to each other? Like an equalizing tube?? The problem is the fitting on the passenger side is broken off. I dont even know what to call it to get the replacement. Any help on what these hoses do would be awesome. Is it a big enough issue not to drive the truck as is? Truck is 2000 F250 SD Scab 4x4 v10. What is this hose made of? What is the fitting made of? Is there anything in the hose (fluid, wire, air, bugs)? What does the fitting look like? How big is the hose? What color? What color is the fitting?

 

Has your ABS light come on?

Sorry. The hose is rubber. Runs into the caliper. After doing some research, is this the vacuum line for the ESOf? Previous owner changed over to manual hubs. Joe, the ABS light did come on, but it was real low on fluid, after topping off, ABS light is out.

 

I really don't know...one of the pro's should chime in shortly.

If it goes into the caliper, maybe the PO just stuck the vacuum hose on the bleed nipple? Is it just stuck on there with no clamp? Pull it off and see whats inside.

i think you are confusing the caliper with the knuckle... and it would then be the vac lines... just my guess though

At work now, will check again. Maybe it is the knuckle. I will try to get a pick if it is not too dark. Not the bleeder screw though. Found that one.

 

My apologies. "upon further review" the hose is going into the knuckle, which as I understand it, would make it the ESOF vacuum line. I plugged it off as the PO switched over to manual hubs. Thanks for the help. I will be sure to work on looking at the part twice and then posting a question.

make sure both ends of that vacc line is pluged !! I've heard that it will cause problems with your inside heater vents as they are ran on vacc as well. Others might be able to elaborate on that !!

 

It's probably not necessary to plug "both ends". But plugging one end of both hoses is a really good idea. Well, you did invite elaboration, LOL.

Whatever it takes to avoid a vacuum leak.
