Ill be moving to omaha / council bluffs soon and I need advice on cheap 1 bedroom apartments in a safe neighborhood close to council bluffs. I will be working with Cargill and i would also like to be close to nightlife if possible.

Hey Matt. Hopefully somebody will chime in and help out. I live out in western Omaha, but if I find anything, I'll let you know.

Downtown Omaha and the Old Market area is a happening place. But, I don't know how affordable it is. When I looked for a temporary place down there in 2004, it was pretty pricey. Some of the areas to the south of Downtown are cheap, but may not be considered very 'safe'.

You may find cheaper options in Council Bluffs. Not sure how the safety issue is over there.

edit - The generally accepted "bad part of town" is north Omaha, to the north and slightly west of downtown. We lived in one of the so-called nice areas of West Omaha (Rockbrook) and still had a car stolen right out of the driveway, so I tend to have a bad attitude about Omaha in general...

If you have any specific areas in mind, post them up or send me a PM and I'll give my somewhat biased opinion!

I used to live down off of 38th and Dodge, just west of downtown. The neighborhoods down there vary. It's nice for 2 blocks around, then crappy for 2, nice for 2.... I know the Old Market is Very Expensive.

I never did ask you Rob if you wanted that car back........LOL!!

I almost rented an apartment in the Ford Lofts building, on Dodge and 12th back in 2004. It was huge, 3 br 1700+ sq ft. They wanted $1200/month back in 2004. That building has converted to condos now. Ended up renting a townhome out in LaVista, we decided that downtown wasn't a good place to live with small kids, no outdoor space for them to play. It was pricey in LaVista too, but we had a brand new unit with an attached garage.

I'll see if I can find one of the local apartment guides around here Matt and see what there might be.

The area around Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs is pretty decent. Is that the lake you are talking about?

There is also Carter Lake, IA, which borders North Omaha and the airport area... I'd probably avoid that area if I were you.

There are few different apartment complexes in Council Bluffs along I-29, as you go north from I-80. It's pretty easy to get around on that side of the river, not as congested as over in Omaha.

Having a hard time remembering apartments. You are better off in CB. I know there is the Heights in CB. Parkwild is right down the hill but is a little older. If you find something let me know and I will let you know if it is an OK area and what the place it like.
