When I was a kid, my Dad had an overhead camper on the back of his 85 F-150 that he hauled around all the time and the truck never complained. I think the average weight for an overhead camper is about 800 lbs.

Just use some overload springs or an adjustable airbag system in the rear to help it out if you feel it needs it.

they made some light cabover campers that would work on an F150 with just overloads
but then wheel bearings became an issue

all of the truck campers i have owned were 1200lbs and were 8 foot in length.should use a 3/4 ton but i have used 1/2 ton.check your local laws.here in canada, in british columbia you need 3/4 ton or D.O.T. will fine you.if you decide to use your f150 get helper springs.those things are top heavy and soft springs will make the truck rock from side to side. good luck
