Talking Good Deal At Sandblasters

Well I got my 48 at the sand blasters. The guy is going to blast inside and out on my cab, my doors, rear fenders, and the entire bed top and bottom. Then they will use a good epoxy primer on everything. All this for $450.00.I can't do it myself for that.By the way the place has a good rep. and blast alot of the old autos in my area.My 48 should be ready monday. Can't wait to get her back.Glad I did not sell it.Just wanted to share the good news.

Sounds cheap enough, to be safe you need to find out what he is using for blasting media before he does it.

Sounds like a good deal. As long as you know the guy has done other vintage vehicles in your area you shouldn't have to worry about him warping your truck. He should know what he's doing. I had my entire panel truck body blasted and epoxy primed, inside and out, about six years ago for $600. A panel truck is made of big panels and the only warpage I had was from my welding the donor roof on, which was very minor. The blaster did a great job.

I don't want to bring you down, but I had such a deal on my 55. cab, front fenders, inner fenders, hood, doors.. primed and ready.. done in 2 days.

they destroyed every panel except the front inner and outer fenders.

I had to buy another hood, and doors. the cab has taken an enormous amount of time to get back into shape(about 300 repair hours, roof, back, firewall, front corners, and plenty of bondo). This guy was recommended too. The escape clause in his contract left me with a pile of junk.

So, my inexpensive $500 SB deal cost me a bunch to recover..

Now, on my 54, we used a different place.. used sand on the chassis, soda blast on the rest. primed.. cost $1200. no panels warped, and his contract made him responsible for warpage..

check it carefully before you drive away. get it written down if there is a problem. take pictures.

your mileage may vary, and my best wishes for a perfect job.

Sam

I've checked this guy out.He has done work on some of my friends old trucks with no wrapped panels. He explained how he sand blast and what kind of sand he uses and what he will do to keep from destroying the body.My brother in law has his autos done there all the time.I will check out the work before I leave with it.Sorry to hear about some jackleg destroying your truck.I know of some places like that here to.The shop is in Hannibal Mo.I will post pics when I get it back.

I have been sandblasting for 20 plus years and only a #$#@$%%$ will screw up a bunch of body panels or a whole truck or car with too much pressure. I have done numerous projects and cannot believe the jobs I hear that are warped.
Hope you all the best.......Bill

I got blasted last night and today my Panels are warped......

I defer to the experts but my understanding is that walnut shell, soda or plastic media absorb a lot of the heat generated by the blast where the other media doesn't and the gradient is largely transfered to the Panel ???

Your panels are warped from all that cold weather out your way! I was headed out to my garage in Campo this weekend but saw that the CHP had I8 closed due to ICE. It's been a weird year in So Cal...

yep...
a good sandblast job & everything is ready to get goin' on & you know what you have to work with & where you stand. i won't start a complete without a complete sandblast strip. only takes a couplethree hrs. to do. $300 to rent the blaster & the diesel compressor for the day and bout $100 worth of sand. yep.. for 450 that is a good deal, cuz no doubt it's lotta hard heavy work. i however try n' do it on a -15c ish day, the cold air gives a bitta extra insurance against warpage.
i have played a bit on some ol' scrappers i had kickin' round... boy o wicked you can make that metal, specially on newer vehicles warp
some metal is so lite on the newer cars you can put wrinkles & piles in the metal it looks like a piece of cloth.
