What is this under Turbo? (PIC)

Hey guys, this is the same truck I posted about the sludge in the coolant yesterday.

I am not sure what this wire is holding open/shut, but it is tied to the motor lifting eye. A little history about the truck - this is not the original motor. The truck has about 250k miles and the motor was put in about 50k miles ago. The PSD came out of a wrecked Ford with about 100k miles on it. so the motor has roughly 150k on it. It is very strong, just noticed this while doing some routine maintenance.

Also, found some other things under there that were left unplugged. Not sure why. (Side note - we did NOT install this motor, it was done by a local truck shop, who I am currently losing confidence in)

I jumped on another computer. Yep thats the Exhuast back pressure valve being help open by that wire. Is there a rod on the back side going to the turbo pedestal? Also is there a two wire connector that is unplugged under the intake tubing on the intake housing of the turbo?

Yep. The no buck quick EBPV fix.

Tj
Ford actually has a EBPV delete. I have one of the very few.
Its a clamp on the rod to the valve. Its how ford fixed my EBPV under warren.

The wires I am talking about are the control wires for the EBPV actuator. I am just wondering if the actuator is hooked up still. The conenctor is right under where the intake tubing attaches to the turbo on the driverside. two wire connector.

Yep they did. If you ever take the downpipe or Turbo off just remvoe that butterfly valve from there and close the hole up for the center rod and you can get that wire out of there.

10-4. Thanks.

BTW - Since it is a colder climate around here (about 9 degrees this morning) wouldn't it be ideal to have this thing hooked up?

NO!! From my experience it doesn't help a lick to heat the truck up. But what it will do is render you powerless when you try to merge into traffic, pull out in front of somebody, and jsut cause senseless problems at random times causing lots of uncertainty in your truck! I live in Michigan and haven't had a functioning EBPV for going on 5 years now. Don't miss it one bit!

Yeah I know what you mean about the power loss. I agree it is aggravating and can become dangerous if you really needed to scoot. But whenever mine does this (personal truck) and I give it WOT, it seems to clear up. So I guess the valve only closes when at partial throttle?

There will come a time that no matter what you do with the throttle that valve won't open! Then you can buy a EBP sensor and clean the tube and it might work. I choose to get rid of the oil leaking piece of junk all together!

Can you tell I don't like the EBPV??!!
