460 identification

I am interested in buying a 81 F250 w/ a 460 from a 74 Marquis, 9" total lift and 38.5" Swampers. What is the proper way to make an ID of the motor/auto trans? I trust the guy, I just want to make sure. I am a Mopar fan who is thinking of trying out Ford for the first time. Thanks in advance for the info. Also, any info about this motor would help!

the 460 is id'd easiest by the valve covers. they are basically prizm-shaped. the top of the valve covers are level along the full length except the very ends, where they turn down to the flange. both ends also look triangular. it's almst difficult to explain, but if there is a hump at one end or they do not resemble prizm's, then it is not a 460. also, the 460 valve covers have 7 bolts securing them; 3 along the top and 4 along the bottom.
the 460 is a very strong engine. i feel it is among ford's best enginesas far as transmission, if it's an auto, it almost has to be a c-6, as identified by a one-piece casing (bell housing is integral to the case)if it is a manual...there is so much to look at to determine exactly....a granny low is most likely an NP-435, and a regular 4 speed is most likely the T-18
