460 truck heads
The now defunct Super Ford Magazine had an article on late-model EFI460 heads back in a 1996 issue entitled,"Low-Buck 460 Heads".They were E7TE castings that they used for the test.Basically they go on to say in stock form, these heads don't flow well, but they can be ported&given a valve job so they can flow almost like F.R.P.P. 460CJ heads! They also point out that a lot of these EFI460 heads sit in junkyards (i.e. you can get 'em cheap!).They state they cost about $100 at the junkyard. That's excellent given what can be done to them.I'd tell you to buy those EFI460 heads....

I don't think that's true, because of the magazine article itself. You can't use non-EFI intakes on a EFI460 block, unless you had the EFI heads ported to match up to the intake that you chose. With a good porting,a four-angle valve job,and larger 2.19"intake&1.76" exhaust valves,a set of EFI460 heads can be real performance heads. These can be used on any 429,or 460.The worst thing about late-model EFI heads is their stock valve sizes:1.975" intake&1.65" exhaust. True,EFI460 heads-box stock-aren't a good choice for a built-up early 460 because of their small ports&valves, but they would "bolt on".All the ports would be mismatched, however, because of the size of those on the EFI intake are small, just like on the EFI heads. Any use of EFI460 heads,on a 460-4V engine will require port work.Installing a larger set of valves is a very good idea, too. The EFI460 heads are just a cheaper alternative to more expensive castings,or aftermarket heads.

If you had a set of EFI460 ported&fitted with larger valves, I'd go with a set of headers.Stock EFI460 exhaust manifolds are extremely restrictive. Many aftermarket suppliers offer EFI460 truck headers. To gain some more power, you could always smooth out the header ports, and match them up to the ports on the heads.

My 1992 460 engine has an EFI intake and D0VE-C (1970) heads. The intake manifold runners are roughly 0.25 inches higher than the D0VE head ports at the tops. You can port the head to match the intake, but the intake is too thin to remove much material. The bottom of the intake runners mismatch by almost a half inch. The intake manifold is higher. (might be good as a reversion reflector?). There is very little mismatch in the widths of the intake ports. You will also need D5TE exhaust manifolds (or headers) not the EFI units. The EFI exhaust manifolds will not even cover the larger D0VE exhaust ports.
