1988 Ford Ranger 2.0 Carbed/vacuum hoses

The last time I posted to this forum was Jan. of 2006. That's when the gear that drives the distributor/fuel pump busted. Still looking for the cover that encloses the timing belt. I had to pull the head off the old 4 banger for a valve job. After all was said and done the # 2 cylinder exhaust valve had a big chip out of it. One of the intake valves was so pitted it had to be replaced. Head was surfaced ( and magnafluxed/no cracks) and new stem seals installed. Price $219. Not too bad. I do know why the engine was spark knocking like crazy though. The EGR valve was completely plugged at the valve and the intake. Hence it probable toasted the exhaust valve. The one question I have is about the vacuum hose system. My Ranger has a diagram of the hose routing but I just can't seem to figure out what goes where. I've pretty much got everything back in place with a few exceptions. Me being the brain that I am jerked all the stuff off saying to myself all the while you can remember how everything goes back. NOT!!! Does anyone have in plain terms the definitions or whatever these letters mean? Any color pictures ( I should have taken some with my digital camera before disecting) would be helpful.

It's nice to find someone on these forums who has the same Ranger I do...

Good luck finding detailed information specifically for the 2.0, they seem rather rare, most have the 2.3 (same engine, but differen't parts and usually fuel injected)

I also have an 88' ranger with only the baren minimums, carbed 2.0Liter, stickshift, etc...

I'll try and help you any way I can but I am only an amatuer...

The previous owner of my truck really abused it, and the vacuum system is one of the things that I've not really understood yet either...

I see if I can maybe look up these abbreviations and add their meaning to the image and re-post it for ya.... I'm not sure when I'll have the time though...

Good luck, and thanks for the high quality diagram scan!

Smile 88 Ranger 2.0 5 speed

Hi Jason thanks for the response. It's bad to be poor and even worse to be poor and not have a clue what you are doing. I have a slight photographic memory but sometimes it doesn't work quite right. I just won a bid on ebay for an original 1988 Ford Ranger/BroncoII Ford shop manual. It cost me 23.50 all told but what the heck it would have cost me a whole lot more if taken to a repair shop for the same work. I'm a do it yourselfer type of person even it might take a while doing it. I think we can work through this and both learn a lot along the way. I'm not going to be able to work on it any more until Friday. Still have the T-stat and housing to put back on, tighten the cam shaft gear, tighten air pump/alternator bolts and the timing belt etc. I've never seen such a small weak engine have such a gang gobbly of hoses coming off the carb as I have on this truck. Maybe that's why it's so weak (Well it is a 2.0 you know). Will get back to you later. I could probably write a book on my experiences with this truck but I'll save that for later...have a good one...!!! Again I appreciate the response even if you are amateur, at least you took the time to read my post. If there is anything I can help you with don't hesitate to ask. Maybe your truck is in just as good of shape as mine (which isn't saying much) lol

I got pictures of it in my gallery, I only paid $350 for it so I think you can guess the shape it 'was' in...
