just picked up a 1990 ford ranger 4x4 and I was wondering what are some common things to look at before deciding if i want to build this vehicle.im going to do a solid axle front and springs in order to fit some 33s or 35s.this truck was purchased for 350 bucks and is meant to be low budget.

There's really no such thing as a low budget 4x4 when you start talking about swapping out front suspensions and what have you. There's no direct straight axle bolt in as the rangers, bronco II's or explorers never had it. So you'll have to fab in some jeep parts or something simular. I would just lift it and run 33's or 35's. Your also going to have to swap gears to run tires that big, front and rear. The dollars will start to add up fast. I would lift it a little, throw a set of 31's or 32's under it and mud it untill the wheels fall off, now thats low budget.

I'm with Wendell. Low budget 4x4'ing machine isn't gonna happen.
Get a leveling kit and run 31-33"s, maybe look into re-gearing depending on what your current gears are and what you're gonna use the truck for.
