rust fix

I live in Minnesota where they salt the roads like crazy. My 98 expy is showing rust only on the pinch welds on the bottom of all 4 doors. Is there any way to stop the rust before it gets to the point of no return? I love this truck and can't afford to replace it with a newer one. Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.

try painting it with POR 13. I have a 99 EX and the driver/passenger doors doing the same. I live in Pa and face the same problem with salt

Did the POR 13 work? Does it spray on, brush on? Do you need to sand down to bare metal or go over the rust and is it supposed to stop it if you go over it, Thanks.

sand the rough spots and brush it on over the rust. not sure if its a long term fix or not. its worth a try though.

I used "rust Bullet" wire brush, clean and brush on a few coats read instructions my truck was from Michigan and had rust in seams lifting paint. I used rust bullet about 2 years ago and NO rust has come back after a few days I did spray paint bottom of doors with factory match paint and looks very nice.

rust bullet has I think on the web site some comparisons to others I liked that rust bullet in that you didi not have to get out all the rust in fact they want some left to make it react and dry.

Rust is bad bad news for neat vehicles. I drove a lot of neat cars in PA for 40 years. For the first 20 years I lost many to rust. Then I found the solution. Get a garden sprayer and spray oil all over the underside and frame and inside the doors (especially door edge seams) and quarter panels every Oct-Nov when the vehicle is dry. Rub the fender lips with wheel bearing grease. Sloppy yes but it works and extends sheet metal life. I had a 78 Bronco for 18 years and a 68 Cutlass for about 15 years with zero rust. I'm sold for this approach in the rust belt. I now live in FL--no more rust.

I am also going to try Rust Bullet. I ordered some straight from their website using a link from an ad on this site.
