Real MPG on (04-08) 5.4 2WD SCREW's?

Hey Guys,

I used to have an 04 SCAB FX4 4x4 with the 5.4.

What kind of mileage are you guys realistically getting with a 2WD 5.4 SCREW?

My '07 with 13k mi gets BARELY 16 on the highway (70 to 75 mph). Very poor.

Even at 65 it shows only about 18 mpg and at that speed in Texas you can get run over!
Very disappointed in the mileage. I had an '05 SD powerstroke that got better than this on the highway.

Even though Ive got a '07 FX4 Im averaging about 16-18 MPG combined (3.73 rearend). The only Mod I have made is a K&N filter installed at 14,000 miles. Ive got 19K now. The best I have ever got is 18.3. Now towing I get about 12.5-15 MPG.

Im extremely pleased with alot of the information that Ive gotten from these forums, but Im scared to proceed with any more mods, (programmer, etc) until i can verify some of the stuff Ive heard here about the 5.4L

I love mine just like it is, but I want a little bit more...

We're going to be selling my 04 Ranger next Fall and I'm considering a 2WD SCREW. It'll do 99% of what I need with a LS rear end.

I was just hoping for a 17-18 MPG report from the 2WD version. Probably not a reality without some mods like intake and maybe some E-fans.

CMOS,
Here in Houston we'll never get very good mileage out of these trucks. Reformulated gas and warm weather kills the fuel economy. I get between 12 and 13mpg on my 4x4 Screw. Check out this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...g-results.html

Very nice presentaion on that info Bridge. 6200 miles is not going to be optimum break-in for these trucks, in my experience. Maybe present some more data points when you hit about 20K? That would be very interesting.

I would imagine that a 2WD would get about 1-2 MPG better then a 4x4. Agreed?

I would hope closer to 2mpg. My wife's 2wd Expy gets around 15 or 16mpg.

My truck is getting ready to turn 15K miles. I think I'm going to take advantage of the group buy and get the fans and hopefully an Edge tuner as well. I'll track my mileage and post the results in a couple of months. I'm gonna find some way to squeeze 15mpg out of this truck.

My 2005 will return ~20 mpg on the highway. As a matter of fact, I just returned from a trip, mostly highway, 260 miles and the fuel gauge is reading the width of the needle above the half mark. At that point, it takes about 13 gallons, perhaps a little less, to fill it up. Of course, I did not have the a/c compressor running at any point in the trip.

Around town, ~15 mpg is what I will see. I will say that I am intrigued about the possible gains by using efans and have also considered a bed cover. The truck is stock, no tuner, cai, exhaust, etc.

These mileage figures are all hand calculated, the truck is an XLT and I have no trip computer.

I'm leaning that way. I like the bracket they use.

I drove an '04 2wd SCrew for 4 years. It had 5.4 engine, 3.73 diff, and I could get 21 on the highway if I drove 65-68 mph, WITHOUT cruise control. Using cruise decreased my mpg because it tended to gear down on hills, which I could avoid when not using cruise. I now have an '08 SCrew, 5.4L, 3.73, RoushCharger, and I have gotten as much as 18.5 mpgn trips, provided I watch my right foot. The '08 has <2,000 miles so far, so I imagine mpg wil improve with more break in. Driving at higher speeds, or in city, naturally decreases mpg considerably.

04 F150 Screw Lariat 4x4 5.4 3.73s 32" tires
gets about 14-16 in town(depends on how much traffic and stop and go).
On the hwy, it gets 18-22. (18 with A/C doing 70 and accelerating pretty quick)(22 with out a/c doing 55-60 and taking it easy on acceleration) 19-21mpg depends on how hard of acceleration and speed.

So usual numbers seen 15 in town and 20 on the hwy.
