5.4 Spark Plug Question

You'll find the spark plug issues in the 2 valve Triton engines (V-8 and V-10). The 2004 engines in the Super Duty are 2V engines, although they may be OK. I've had some tell me the 2004 Triton engines in Super Duty trucks got redesigned heads, but others tell me they didn't.
If you purchase a truck with 3 valve heads (2005+) you're OK, plus you get a better automatic transmission.

The problem with the F150's is with the 3 valve heads, I thought. Which is 2004 and newer. Do the F150's and F250 not use the same 5.4L engines? The truck I am l looking at is a 05. The problem I am refering to is when the grounding sheild sepereates from the upper part of the spark plug and stays in the head when removing the spark plugs. Then you have to try and get the grounding sheild out of the head.

motown this is a problem with the Super Duty 5.4L's for the 3v in the 2005 and up (Super Duty didn't get the 3V until 2005 - unlike the F150's that got it in 2004).
To solve this problem, all you do is pull your plugs at 50,000 miles and put anti-seize compound on them. I had the dealer do this for free when I purchased my truck. If you wait until 100,000 miles before you do anything with them, it is possible they can seize in the heads and then you have a $2,000 + repair bill to get them fixed.
