I bought a 6.4L F250 SC back in April and I've got about 13k on it. If I had to do it all over again I would've got a V10. I get about 9mpg with a good mix of city and highway driving. I haul around about 1100 lbs. in the back of my truck all the time and have been very happy with the power, but I think the V10 would give me the same mileage with lower maintenance costs. The truck is very comfortable and fun to drive, but I don't feel the engine is worth the extra money.

Go for it. I am at about 1000 miles trouble free. UNDERSTAND before you buy that you must use "ulsdf"; the key word being ultra which equates to 15 ppm sulfur. Then understand the regeneration (aka regen) system that is a normal process of the engine exhaust. My truck is pretty much loaded and I love to drive it.
Also, your profile indicates you live in NJ, but you do not get a freegrille cover, so make the dealer throw in the $93.00 cover for snow protection. You will need it.

Look over on the 6.4 forum. Problem is snow gets into air intake and you stop. I guess it makes sense. The 6.4 has a pair of Turbo chargers and would act like a huge vacuum under the hood. So far I am at 10.2 mpg real, mostly local travel. First trip in a week or so.

Traded in a 99 v10 350DRW to the 450. Towing 16650# and plan to upgrade to a heavier 5ver. If you ave not going to tow over 15 for a lot of miles, Consider the V10 with fuel prices. The V10s are getting about the same fuel milage, but right now 50 cents less per gallon. Love my new 450 averaging 13.46mpg now that it is broke in. Average 8.76 towing over 2000 miles this summer. Hind site I would still choose the new 6.4 over the V10 unless I was towing a lighter trailer in the future. Unless Ford offered 4.88's in a V10 that could tow 18,000?
Good luck

depends on what you are using it for....long trips? Probably a good buy better than the other 2 heard Dodge's are horrible. Short trips? Sucks ***! Truck will regen alot! whch will consist of 2-4 mpg until it runs it's course. Gotta love the EPA. I really really like my new F350 except for the diesel part. If I would have known about this new regen crap I wouldn't of bought it ....Tons of power, quiet and rides nice for a big truck. Could of spent my money a little wiser. You need to ask your salesman about the regen process they didn't siclose this to me when I bought mine make s a big deal unless you are going on long trips. I get about 12 mpg on the hwy that sucks at $3.25 a gal. Other friends get 16-18 with theirs but the dealer said there's nothing wrong with mine????

Do your research!

Welcome aboard. You will meet a lot of great guys/gals? that are Ford truck owners and critiquer-s. When I first got involved I did not realize the other forums. With your 2008 PSD you might want to make sure and check the 6.4 PSD diesel FORUM. You can do that from the Forum menu atop the page. I have a son who lives in Columbus and boats in Lake Erie. You are ahead of me on mielage, but I am really looking forward to our first trip next week.

Mine had a cracked DPF within a few hundred miles resulting in a loss of preformance in all areas. DPF replaced and we are fine. MPG is not as good as earlier models but the 08 comes with new emmision standards. MPG will be determined on how you drive it. We are around 18 mpg at interstate speeds of 63/65 MPH..in town driving is to variable because of where we drive and what kind of traffic. Our kind of city driving is at speeds of 35/50 MPH 80% of the time and stop and go 20% of the time.We will see 13's to 15's depending on driving conditions. This truck weighs 9200lbs +. The 6.0 was a all over disaster for Ford.. the first year of the 6.4 has been , compared t o the 6.0 excellent. These are diesel motors.. learn how to,drive them and care for them and you will be fine.

I am about three miles off I-75 in Macon, GA, exit 171. If you have any trouble feel free to track me down. We have a place near Seven Springs in W PA. Actually closer to Laurel Mountain ski slopes which are closed, but a few miles from there. Nice to get back to snow country. My experiences have been use the Flying J fuel stops. NO trouble. I did have trouble before I switched.
