As originally equipped = 16 1/2"

For service part replacement, Ford obsoleted the original steering wheels used in 1970/72 *and replaced them with the type used in 1973/77.
Now: 1971/77 F100/350 except with cruise control:

D4TZ-3600-A = black only). I believe this later wheel is 16."

*1970/72 F100/350

D1TZ-3600-A - BLACK

D1TZ-3600-B BLUE

D1TZ-3600-C RED

D1TZ-3600-D GREEN

Thanks for the answer NumberDummy. I was told bye the previous owner the steering column had been replaced out of a 73 F series. Just looked kinda big from what I always remembered from my youth. Of course Ive grown out also since high school.

No one reproduces 1971/73 F100/350 steering wheels. No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any NOS

The black steering wheel in repro parts sellers catalogs is: D4TZ-3600-A, used on 1974/77 F100/350's & Bronco's, 1975/77 Econolines (all w/o Speed Control).

This same steering wheel was the FoMoCo Service Part Replacement steering wheel for 1971/73 F100/350 steering wheels

And: As original, the vinyl horn pads did not come with steering wheels, were only available as a separate part.

1971/77: Same, but there are three different types. Black Camera Case Finish / Walnut Wood Grain Finish (XLT only) / And the type used 1975/77 with Speed Control.

SO my only hope is to find a somehow not cracked original that is still hanging around in a junk yard truck or some random person has one that is actually RED like I want, that actually wants to sell it, and that hasnt sold it in the last 40 years... sigh, prolly not .................................................. .................................................. ..................... thanks alot though, you've confirmed my suspicions.... sigh, I wanted this truck to be all original restoration... If you had a 1967/70, I know where there's a NOS 3 spoke red steering wheel. I found it in TN on one of my scrounging trips, sold it to FTE member gangstakr.

But it won't work on 1971/77's, because it uses a chrome horn ring and other 1967/70 only stuff.

Watch ebay, also look in Hemmings Motor News under Ford parts for sale. When you own one a these old rolling piles of misery, it takes patience when looking for some parts.

Took me almost 3 years (1981/83) to find a NOS 1965 F100 anodized aluminum grille. Had been obsoleted by Ford 9/1965, replaced with the 1966 grille. Finally found one at an Alabama funeral home.

Jess, I know, but it won't look right on a 1971/73. It can be made to work, but...
