You are correct- those 8.152" are 351w length pushrods and definetely way too long. Those are standard length for the 351w, so that means use standard for the 302 in your application, the fact it's a 351w cam just threw them a loop.

I'm sure the book probably covers everything, but I will mention the most important thing, keeps those rev's above 2000 for the first 20 mins. or so to break it in. Outside of that the only other thing I can think of is to make sure your timing cover, timing chain set, and fuel pump eccentric are compatable as there is a 2 peice or 1 pc. option on the eccentric and the other parts must match. And probably already mentioned and obvious but you need new lifters for the new cam , but I'm in the middle of posting this and can't go back to check.

Thanks again. Well I have a holley electric pump, I think the eccentric will be fine. I guess I should have said this but do I really need a dial gauge so check if I need shims, and i'm thinking of replacing my chain with a gear drive. just going to go with the Jegs brand gears. And I'm getting new lifters, but again the big thing is will I need to shim this cam, I had the engine rebuilt about 2 years ago. When I pull the old cam out and there are shims should I put them back with the new cam? thanks

I would also open the mains and connecting rods check oil clearances, and retorque everything just too be sure with a cut crank. Make sure you get the long block then. Some guys here may be able to chime i as to what year would be best for head casting
Try chatting with the staff at gofastparts.com- they are located in Redlands Ca, carry about every crate engine known and I don't know of anyone who i have resommended to them, come away unhappy- even regarding price!!!!!!!!
