What is the best snow tire?

The best tire I have used so far in the snow was BFG'S all terrain. There are a lot of others to choose from. So what tire is better than what I have used so far? With all the people in this forum we should come up with very good information.

I am looking for a new set and am looking for anything proven to out perform BFG AT in snow!

Thanks

I'm running the Kumho AT KL78's on my truck now. My last 2 sets of tires were BFG AT's, and I can tell you the Kumhos are much better in the snow. The plus side is the Kumho's are quite a bit cheaper than the BFG's.

This topic gets beaten to death but I vote for Cooper Discoverer M&S. Awesome winter tires.

If your just looking for that Winter tire, like Nikolai: said Cooper Discovery M & S are hard to beat,,plus there studdable,,lots of siping( which grip in the snow) I was looking for a bit more agressive tread.

I went with the Hankook RT03 MT tires, they are studdable (which I had done) and I really like them, right now here in eastern CT, we have about 12" snow on the ground, driveway's are all frozen over, with layer of Ice, and they do very well.

My son has the BFG's AT's on a 89' Bronco,,while light and fluffy snow they seemed great,,2 wheel drive did fine,,when the snow got heavy,,and like 8" or so,,I saw him get stuck in my driveway,,in 4X4, so thats why I looked for something different,,,Plus the BFG's are big $$$$$$ !

If you want the best winter tire, get yourself a set of Blizzak W965s. They are without a doubt the best ice and snow tire you will find, but the down side is they will wear quickly if you drive all year on them.

I am running Nitto Terra Grapplers and they are a lot better than BFG's in the snow and cost a lot less. I used to run BFG's and will never run them again. My nittos out perform them in every way. Yet my next tire will probably be a TOYO'S.

I also agree with redford. The Blizzarks are by far one of the best for snow. AT tires are usually good in snow but the Blizzarks are specifically made for snow and ice.

Not sure why i am chiming in as never tried the W965, but you can bet they would be my first choice and here is why. The WS-50 i used on the Ferrari were amazing. In fact an ice racing league (we race on frozen lakes) have various car classifications, and those with Blizzaks were placed into a higher (faster) category than those who chose other (non-studded) tires.

Agree with Redford, they will wear like mad on dry warm pavement, so they are not all season rubber.

If you are only looking for a winter tire then take a look at Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires.

I am running the Nokian Vatiiva AT on my F250 and they are great tires. They are actually make by Cooper in the US. I have a fairly steep driveway that with previous tires I needed 4 wheel drive if there was any snow. I have been out in the deep snow many times and only needed two wheel drive. They have a 50K mile tread wear warrenty.

I've never ran a dedicated snow tire.

But I have used BFG ATs on my 01 and Goodyear Silent Armors on my 07 and 99 F-150....I like the Goodyears better over all in pretty much all conditions over the BFGs.

Blizzaks are very good, but if you want serious traction in packed snow and ice, then you have to use studded tires. Pic a nice narrow tire and get it studded. Just my experience and 2 cents.

I have the Bridgestone Blizzak W965s in 235/85R19E on a seperate set of rims. I take them on/off about 8 time a year, whenever snow is not forcasted for 5 days in a row. The tires and 420 pounds of sand behind the rear axle make a big difference. Philip.

I have Summit Trail Climbers on mine in the winter. They are pretty good tires for winter driving. They go really well. Most times I don't even have to use 4x4. They also stop good on snow. We get up to 300 inches per winter and I really have tested them out.
