How far can you push a 360?
We all Know that the 360 has performance limitations. People will say the best thing to do is swap in 390 crank/rods or go with a stroker. While that deffininetly would work what if you wanted to build a 360? How far could you realisticly push a 360?
Looking at a mild build for a 360. Just kicking ideas around at this point, am interested in keeping it a 360 just to do it. This is going to be mild enough that the 352 rods will be fine, not worried about mpg.
Using a min overbore, stock heads, decking the block and using decent pistons to get up to around 9.5, 4v intake, headers and a healthy cam how realistic is a 300hp goal? If not 300 what could you expect?

360
hi and merry christmas . i have just rebuild a 360 out to a 365 now it was a truck block i could get truck heads so i had to put c8ae-h car heads on that means the intake will had to be change to a car one i use a edelbrock with a 600sq bore holley + a inch spacer , i spend $12.000 on this rebuid , silvolite pistons , big oil pump , all new parts the only old parts were ,block, crank, rods ,there is a pic in my gallery anyway it just flys did i say it was in a 10ton truck
won,t do land speed records but it will pull hard up hills pass jap trucks and that just make my day , that big motor is in a 1963 f700 tip truck ( dumptruck ) it use to have a 292 y block in it, now the trucks 2 to 3 gear better in power sum time i only drop half a gear to pick up the rev,s love to put this motor in a car with wings the boke who rebuild it said it had 400ft of torque at 3000 rpm,s if you need to do the same there a broke in here call rusty he help me getting back to how far you can push them this block can be bore out to 410 but i need the stroke to make the push it gets back to money i guess i use my truck to move my excavator and mustang around from job to job and beat jap trucks go the old fords

360s
Mattri, the 360s biggest problem is it's assembled height issue. If you are willing to have custom pistons made (500$ + ) then the 360 will be fine. But anyone who has a 390 and the correct pistons can spend his next 500 on other stuff and he is still going to have more easily useable power than your 360. It really is the weaker sister, the best feature is how easliy they can be built into a 390 or a 410 ( or bigger ). DF

Since "360" is not synonymous with "performance", maybe you should think in terms of a hot FE 352" build. Ford did put them in big heavy cars for most of the 60's. I'm not that much up on my FE history, but I think there was a solid lifter, 10:1 CR, hi-po offering for a year or two. Fuel was cheap, cars were huge, engines just got bigger and more powerful.
Maybe we just have to re-think how we think???
