Plug Change

What's a reasonable price to pay for a plug change. I was quoted 290.

Call the dealer and figure 2/3rds for a garage to do it....

or.....

Do it yourself and learn about the rig. Review several recent posts about plug changes and save some $$$ for those XMas bills.... or a nice pices of chrome for the truck.

Price is also going to depend on wether or not they change your plug boots. No matter who you take it to I'd have them change the boots as well. With this said $290 seems totally fair.

It depends on whether its a 2 valve or 3 valve. I have a 06 3 valve V10 and the spark plugs alone were $9.29 each,so at almost a hundred bucks just for the plugs that quoted price isnt too bad. I agree with the earlier posts though, changing them yourself is a good way to learn more about your SD.

I am really afraid of changing them myself because of all of the plug bow-outs I hear about. I don't have a torque wrench so I think I will have the pros do it.

Bookum1,
I was amazed at how easy it is to change these plugs. I planned on a full day to get the job done but in 2 hours I was finished. If you have like 3 different sizes of extensions nothing is that bad to get to. The money you save by doing the job yourself you can buy a nice Tq wrench and pocket some extra money. Then you'll have the Tq wrench available to re-torque them in 15k miles instead of taking it back to the mechanic and being charged another $150 to do it.
