How high can you go?

I found the problem!!! Some dumb SOB (Don't ask me who I think it is) some how got the spring in the FPR cocked and it folded four (4) coils over and jambed the whole shabang up. (Did you know the pump was capable of 100+ Lbs?)
Now...having one hell of a time straightening the spring . No matter what I do it still is a little out of line. And to everyones amazment the "Stealership" don't have one but can order the valve "Kit" for $35.00.
But for now I need to get this beast on the road again so here is my question?
1) If I put the bent end of the spring in the valve the valve can't slide up the spring. (Not sure if it does that anyway) or, I put the straight end in first and hope that the little "Tit" on the cap will hold the spring in place.
Any suggestions from anyone (Bill?) are always welcome.

I put the misalined end of the spring into the valve and put it all back together. Fired it up and I have 74 Pounds of fuel pressure at idle. It holds at 60# when I shut down.
Thanks for everyones help, This has to be the greatest forum around
