Well my first question is the truck has 49000 on it and was wondering what motor oil i should use. My next question is what r are some performance upgrades i can do to get some more power and hopefully better fuel mileage. The truck already has straight pipes for exhaust.

I like the edge, it seems to pack a good punch for the dollar.

For performance and slighty better gas mileage the best thing would be the Edge Programmer.

As for what oil, you will get a bunch of different opinions. Most people including myself would recommend the Motorcraft oil filter. It is priced great and works just as good if not better then all the others. For oil I run Mobile 1 synthetic($$$). The Motorcraft oil is also very good for a great price and it is what Ford recommends. I will probably eventually switch back to that because it is more than enough protection and its priced a whole lot better.

Nope. It plugs right into your diagnostic port (a plug right under the driver side dash). You pick which level you want(1,2,3) and it programs it for you in about 20 seconds. You start it up, drive it and its guaranteed you will have a big smile on your face when you get back. If you want to put it back to stock. You just select return to stock in the programmer and in about 20 seconds it is just like it was from the factory.

Level one- It tunes your transmission to shift better.

Level Two- Does the transmission and changes some engine settings to create more power and better economy.

Level Three- Does everything above but tunes it for even more power. This setting requires 93 Octane gas though.

This is it.

It sits on the dash in a pod and has digital gauges that are pretty neat.

Yep, comes with a screen...

Also you will want a better flow intake/ air filter to match that exhaust

I only use full syn in vehicles I plan to keep... Oil filter is the most important -if your filter does not flow as intended by the designers of your oil distribution system then you will run into issues. Factory spec of Napa gold -napa gold follows manufacturers spec closely

Is there such a thing as a programmer that you unplug once the reprogram is finished?
While the display is in a neat package I would rather not have anything extra on my dash. I prefer the smooth stock look on the int.

Is there anyone that makes what was once referred to as a "chip" or have they gone by the wayside with todays more intelligent onboard computers. Would like better performance but dont have $400 laying under my pillow.

With the edge you can program the truck and unhook it right after. You do not have to leave it hooked up for it to work. There are some people I believe that make "Chips" but I'm not sure who. Somebody else will have to chime in with that.
