1960 F-600 292 Y Block

I have a 1959 F-250 4x4 that is missing it's 292 Y block and I am wanting to restore it back to its original condition. I have located a 1960 F-600 292 Y block 2bbl motor and wanting to know what the differences in this motor compared to the original 292 that would have been in the 1959 F-250 4x4. I do have the 4 speed transmission and bell housing for the 4x4. The other question I have is do the front fenders from a 1960 F-600 interchange with an 1960 F-100/250?

Thanks for your help

The motor will be the same, some ofthe mounts maybe slightly different so possibly you`ll have to swap them over. Other wise you shuld be good to go.
The fenders I`m not sure on, someone that knows will hopefully chime in soon.

I believe the wheel openings on the F600 are considerably larger

Wouldn't it be a 292HD motor? I think they had the forged steel cranks, which are good, but I think they were also low compression.

Sodium cooled valves too. (we had a '58 F600. Got a reman through Ford that was supposed to be a "Gold Crown" {I think} but turned out to be a regular engine, causing the old man to blow a gasket 30 years later when it was torn down again....)

Either way, it should work.

Howdy,

The fenders will probably interchange but they will have much bigger cutouts.

The engine should be the same. Some newer 292 truck engines had HD cranks in them I think. Most of those are few and far between.

Most of those engines were pulled many years ago..

The fenders will work but will have a wider opening but should look great on a 4x4. Engine mounts I think are the same. It could have a steel crank which would be stronger. Don't know how much of a change in compression though.

I tried a set of the F-600 fenders on our F-100 and the openings are about 2" higher than the normal fenders. I think they looked really odd being that much different.

There are three different 1959/60 F Series front fenders.

1959/60 F100/350 with 15" - 16" - 17.5" wheels

1959/60 F250/600 with 19.5" - 20" - 22.5" wheels

1959/60 F700/1100 with 20" - 22.5" - 24.5" wheels
-------------------------------------------------------
272/292 Engines

1957/58 = 272 M/D / 272 H/D

1958/60 = 292 M/D / 292 H/D

I swaped my f250 fenders for f600 ones and they are interchangable...and I think that they look better. I gives the truck a more sleek look and you can't really notice too mch of a height difference.
