How about an inline 10 cylinder diesel

This is also a very, very efficient engine. We have had many discussions about this engine at cummins. Its BSFC at 0.278 beats the best cummins engine ever produced by around 30 points...and it is made by a cummins "partner/associate". The difference seems to come down to emissions. Simply put, emissions kill fuel economy and power. More than you may expect, really.
If our engines could create the efficiency of this engine, the 21mpg out of my 7.3 would be reason to complain. Would nuclear energy be a better choice? That would be debatable. Steam turbines do run highly efficient nowdays, but there is a high initial cost associated with nuclear power. If the boat were to be used 24/7, I can see them going nuclear. Anything less, it probably wouldn't be feasible.
There aren't enough of these engines in the world running to make much of a difference in our fuel prices.
