F-150 rear glass?

On our 01 f-150 the sliding rear window started leaking water in to the rear seat. Had to remove headliner and remove the rear sliding window to replace the buthyl (sp) sealing strip. Now I have to do the same to the 05's rear sliding rear window. It started leaking in just about the same area the 01 leaked from. Is it just our 4 wheel drive trucks? We use them on some ruff construction sites and I was thinking maybe because of flex while driving around these places is causing them to seperate from the cab.. Thanks vapor

Be sure to check the 3rd brake light too. I had a leak there on mine. Thought it was the rear glass but turned out to be that. Put some sealant on there and havent had any issues since.

It was for sure coming from the rear glass sealing strip. I did check with a garden hose. My son would just let the water go around rear glass only and I was in the back seat watching it come in. As I said now the other truck is doing it. It don't take long to pull the rear glass. I got "learning" form the first one I did. Just wasn't sure if we are the only one's to have them leak like this. we do work the snot out of these trucks..

I made an earlier post about noise from what seems to be the center of my rear window, so far, no leak. ( 2007 XL non-opening rear window) I hear a little noise, and maybe we are onto something here. Just where was this leak on the gasket, top center, right, or left, and also, what was the area that needed sealed on the 3rd brake-light? (Whole assembly?) I like my truck, and it is nice to be getting piddling things fixed.

Rats, I now see that your leak came from the sliding window itself. I thought in your first post that it may have been the seal holding the rear window in. Still, any more info on the 3rd brake light leak?

It was for sure coming from the sealing strip that bonds the rear glass to the cab. I had to remove the glass (the whole rear window assembly) on the 01 and scape all that tickie-tackie off the glass and cab. Go to NAPA and buy a new sealing strip. ($16.00) That cured the water leak on the 01. Now the 05 truck is doing the same thing. The hardest part was removing the headliner to access the bolts that hold the rear glass in. Even after I removed the bolts the window still had to be pryed out EASY as to not break it. Once out, I could see with my eyes where there was dirt between the rear window sealing strip and cab. Like it pulled away from the cab some in about a 4" section. That is where the water was coming in. It was on the Passenger side top of the glass. It would run down behind the rear seat. I knew if I didn't fix the leak, water would puddle up on the floor and eventually rust it out.

Thanks, I will be checking this out tomorrow. Truck is so fairly quiet otherwise, that bit of noise is all that much more noticeable. Thanks again.....

Some people have had a leak around the 3rd brake light (gasket). If you do a search you will find some threads about it. I just took mine off and put some sealant around it and haven't had any problems with it since. Some take it back to the dealer and have them put a new gasket on if under warranty.

I see you said that there is a noise, is it a squeaking in the back window? My rear window just started to squeak in the last few weeks and it is very annoying. Has anyone checked if this is under warranty?

Spray some silacone around the outside of your rear window frame where it meets the truck.. No more squeak!

There is a TSB for the Slider on 05's;mentions the noise & leaking.
