i guess what i am getting to on this question is if a 1 ton bed will fit on this F-4 chassis and give a 1 ton look and feel.

i put the bed off of an 3/4 ton on mine before making it a 1/2 ton and it looked fine . you will have touse an 8 foot bed though as the 1/2 tons i have seen are all shorter 6 foot beds and they are'nt as wide or as tall as the eight foot . this is with the 53 - 56 one of the guy's with the older trucks will be along anytime now with the correct info .

To find a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup box will be very hard. Even if you could find a decent box it wouldn't fit without major modifications. There is a local truck here that is a F-5 with a custom pickup box, this truck will give you an idea of what a F-4 would look like:

I think tha looks pretty darned good if you ask me....With alot of the trucks now running 18-22" wheels you could still lower the thing if that the look you are after....

Alcoa used to make these wheels but they no longer make them. There was a new set on eBay a couple of years ago from a guy in Illinois, I bid on them but after emailing the seller a couple of time he gave me a bad feeling so I canceled the deal. They ended up going dirt cheap, something like $100 a set.

I went from an F-3 to an F-1 but going to an F-1 from an F-4 would be harder since the bigger truck frame is a deeper channel and heavier. The F2/F3 frames are very similar to the F1s... just longer. It could be done, however. I remember seeing one done sometime back here on FTE by someone overseas (may have been UK or Australia). The F-4 that he converted also had a custom step up in the rear part of the frame above the axle. The F-4 frame is straighter in that area (no kickup) than the F2/F3 and it would be very high in the rear end if that were not done.
