AOD 3-4 Accumulator?????

AOD 3-4 Accumulator?????
I'm replacing my AOD tranny. I popped the pan and noticed the 3-4 Accumulator is missing. Is this part needed. I have a ATSP manuel and it says
"Install the piston (and spring, if so equipped)."
I'm not sure if that means some were equiped without the accumulator or just without the spring. I have an accumulator from the old tranny and installing it would be easy I'm just not sure if I should. My hunch is this is a Mustang tranny and mine is from a truck (installing in a truck). Maybe this is a truck only part?
Thanks for any advice.

Googled it and found this, whew the install continues!
In 1989 the 3-4 accumulator was eliminated, and the holes in the valve body that feed it were blocked. If your transmission doesn't have the 3-4 accumulator make sure you use a valve body that is a 1989 or later style or you will have an internal line pressure leak. 1989 and later valve bodies can be used in earlier transmissions with the 3-4 accumulator, but an earlier valve body cannot be used in a case without the 3-4 accumulator. You can add a 3-4 accumulator to a later model case and use an earlier valve body if you have to, but the later valve bodies are recommended. Not having the 3-4 accumulator does not result in a firmer 3-4 shift, the softening of the 3-4 shift is just accomplished differently in the 1989 and later transmissions.
