2000 E-150 with 4.2l stumbles badly at low rpm
I have a 2000 E-150 that has 214,000 miles on it. I have had a bad miss-fire on #3 cyl. After reading this forum, I found that I could unplug the vacuum line from the EGR valve and get the van to run smoothly. So, I guess my intake ports are plugged up. Since the van was running better, I plugged off the vacuum line and drove the van this way with no problems for a while (with the exception of a code showing insufficient egr) Now I have a terrible stumble at low rpm. At takeoff from a stop, the van will stumble and buck until I get the rpms up to a certain level. It will do this in OD also if I am driving at speeds that are at low rpm. It has started showing the P0340 code (cps circuit malfunction.) I replaced the sensor (not the synchronizer) and reset the code, but that did not help at all.
What should I try next?
Do I need to pull the intake off and clean it out? That seems like a big job in a van.
Is there something else that I need to check first?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Mike

Hey Mike, nice to have you here.
I'm guessing that you are going to have to go after the root problem before you can get things back to where they need to be.
You put a band-aid on it and that worked for a while.
Not sure if a band-aid on top of a band-aid will work
There have been several threads here over the years involving clogged egr ports. You might try using the "search" function to see if you could pull up anything helpful.
Best of luck, and please keep us posted.
Again, nice to have you here!

You where absolutely right Brian! After cleaning those ports and hooking the vac line back to the egr valve, my van runs great. I have put about 325 miles on it since putting it back together and have no codes. The cam position sensor code has gone away and everything is good... Now I guess I better work on those ball joints. They need a little attention now that everything else runs smoother...
