Hi, i recently bought a 79 e100 with a 302/c6. Did a tune up, fixed a leaky accelerator pump(2100 carb) and was having some tuning issues. I thought we had them all resolved, engine is running like a top with 20" of vacuum and running smooth as silk. That is until i try to drive down the road. When i put it in gear it still runs amazing but when i try and drive it, it stumbles/stalls, loads up, and shutters. Its really bad, but yet it idles and is tuned/running AMAZING. i drove this van home 150 miles without a hitch, just wanted to start with a fresh tune up and now i cant drive it at all. We've looked at all vacuum lines, timing, carb, everything. Any ideas?

does it smell like gas? if so maybe the float is stuck
have you sprayed brakekleen around the intake to see if the idle changes ? if it does , you can find your vac leak
what were your tuning issues ?
I dont have a TV cable, so that's not it. Ive checked the floats, not stuck Tried to get a rpm rise by spraying carb cleaner around base of carb and anywhere else o though there might be a vacuum leak, and haven't found any yet. The jets were 49's tried going to 53's(next size I had) and there was absolutely no change. This thing is frustrating to say the least
Bogging down, stumbling, hesitating from a dead stop or when accelerating at speed is indicative of a defective accelerator pump.
You said you replaced it, but also said your Econoline has a 2100 series 2V carb, but that's not correct unless the carb has been swapped.
IMO, you installed the wrong accelerator pump.
ALL 1975/79 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline w/a 2V came with the 2150 series carb, it uses a differentaccelerator pump than the 2100 series 2V

Correct, it is a 2150. I just put 2100 not thinking about it. The accelerator pump is functioning great. It's had 3 separate carburetors on it, with no change in drivability
Assuming at idle, and manual inspection of the Accel pump all check good. Its either the fuel pump or the fuel filter.
Gets plenty of fuel and air at idle, even probably just off idle, but normal driving will cause the engine to starve.
Check the pump and filter, make sure you look at the hose before the pump from the metal line, these can kink or even deteriorate inside and cause poor fuel feed.
ok, well it now has a new fuel pump, and both filters(one at carb inlet and one just before pump) and still no change. replaced all rubber lines and inspected hard line for cracks. the filter just before the pump seems to only get bout half full, and i can watch fuel kinda "plop" out every second or two. maybe something between pump and tank the tank?

Assuming your 100% sure on the timing etc, I get a feeling we may be missing a key indicator...
Raise the front of the van so the tank line at the pump is higher than the tank. Disconnect the line and blow back into the tank with a compressor at about 5 psi, take the cap off the fill. Have a friend listen for bubbling. [you can do this with a bicycle pump too]
Put it all back together see if it drives better.
I still think there is something missing in this puzzle.
My 85 sat for, I don't know how long before I bought it.
One day it acted like it ran out of gas and I know it had a 1/2 tank of gas.
Later it quit with a full tank and below is what I found.
If the sender pick up tube is your problem, Check with NumberDummy on the correct part number.
I originally bought a spectra sending unit but when i received it most of the parts were plastic so i sent it back and bought a ford one
For a 22gal behind the axle
RA says it is part # D7UZ-9275-B
I bought E0TZ-9275-A for mine. WEll that is what the box it came in had on it. The sticker on the sending unit itself had e0uf-9275-bb.. The old sending unit also had e0uf-9275-bb stamped on it..
The old unit
new unit
box the new unit came in
if this is your problem and the part number works
