V10 Knock
Just purchased my first V10, it's bolted in a E350 Van Chassic (Winnebago Class C). It knocks under power. Took it to my local Ford Truck Shop and was told it's the exhaust design for this year. Took it to an RV dealer and he said it's the methanol fuel I am using. Knock sensor seems to be OK and is not being tripped. Anyone have any works of wisdom?

Very well could be,it's known as flutter and is not harmful. You just need to make sure it is this and not pinging which will damage your engine over time.
This engine is designed to run on 87 octane without pinging.

Thanks! It does not ping, just a muffled knock when under load. I have tried different octane fuels with little or no difference in the sound. If it were a 350 Chevy and could be replaced for under a $ 1000, it would be of little concern but given the price of a good used or rebuilt engine, it's a little scary to let something go that could have been prevented.

Good advice to check the dipstick part number at the dealer
against the TSBs. Didn' the old sticks result in overfilling?
I think the Banks exhaust headers reduce the flutter if it really
bothers you.
Glad to see another V-10 Motorhome here. There seems to be no single
place for E-series guys on this board for some reason, so the few that
are here are scattered around.

I still haven't figured out whether the dipstick theory is a joke or if there actually was such a situation. I doubt it is though, I fill the crankcase with 6 quarts and it shows in the middle of the safe range and with 35K, if it were an oil problem, the rods would have skipped off the highway by now.

My 1999 F250 V10 has Piston Slap that Ford says there is not a fix..Does anyone have any TSB numbers for this Piston Slap problem. It is my belief that Ford knows they have a defective product but will not acknowledge it because of the cost of repairs. I have seen some folks say Ford has replaced engines for this problem. Has anyone got Ford to replace a Piston Slap Engine out of warranty.???
If so, how did you do it....I need the engine replaced real bad...48,000 miles, what a shame...Beautiful Truck as long as you don't listen to the engine when it's cold!!!!
