MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. I measures intake manifold vacuum. This is how the computer determines how much load is on the engine. If the computer sees high manifold vacuum and from the throttle position sensor, sees that you are not pushing on the gas pedal much, it will trim the fuel delivery back for max fuel economy. If it sees low manifold vacuum from the map sensor, and sees that you are mashing the throttle down hard, it will richen up the fuel delivery for more power.

Thanks Guys, good info. How about this one.I found a component that appears to be a resistor that has a plug in and a plug out.It is about an inch wide and about two inches long and about a quarter inch thick. The plug in has two wire one dark green and one red wire.I could open the thing up and see that it has two wires with a real small barrel, maybe a diode,on each wire mid way between ends.I don't have anything in My Chiltons about this thing.Got any ideas. Thanks, Ron
