there are projector and reflection HID lights. its all what its set up for. Its actually illegal to put HID's on anything that didnt come from the factory no matter if you do a real HID replacement of hid reflector or projection headlight. im not talking about the hid light that plugs into the factory halogen reflector which are also illegal and are not good because they produce "hot spots" and glare. HID's have a very distinct cutoff line in a backwards z pattern so the light is lower on drivers side as to no blind oncoming traffic...

saturday night my wife and I were driving home from dinner with some friends. We passed a older model chevy truck that someone had added HID lights to. They were way too bright. As I passed him his lights were blinding. After seeing the effects of adding these in factory headlamps, I am not going to change mine factory lights out. I have the mirrors that dim automatically, and the lights were still blinding me in my rearview mirrors. I can only imagine how blinding they would be if out in the country driving towards him, I dont think you would be able to see.

obviously a case where the glare and hot spots were not correct. This is actually bad for the driver as well because it give too much light too close to the vehicle so the drivers eyes will not allow as much light in inhibiting his distance visability, which is crucial at night!!! i will say they are cool and i did a ton of research about doing a true retrofit. even though they are illegal i was going to buy factory head lights and cut them apart to fit factory hid projectors from another car in them. still debating but a big turnoff is you cant see anything above the cuttoff line. This is how it is supposed to be but i dont know if i like it or not.

My '03 had SS's in both high and low beams, and, after driving my '07 at night I couldn't believe the difference.

I've heard that the SS's have a reputation for needing replacement every year or so (the last ones I had didn't, maybe the guys who mentioned that drive only at night, or, drive with their lights on all the time), but, even if that's true, who cares? Being able to see is rather more important, I'd say.

BTW - Put some H13's in the wife's Freestyle too. She's most impressed.

I can't understand why Ford doesn't do a better job with the lighting. I mean, even the "lower end" Expy's cost nearly $40G - you'd think we'd get some decent lights, y'know?
To see if they were on????,BETTER GET YOUR EYE'S CHECKED, i'm 61 and HAVE NO issue seeing at nite with our 07 expy or my 02 f 350,might try taking your sunglasses off at nite, just another unnessary "TOY",when someone is comming at you with silver star's it's like someone is WELDING right in front of you and then I can't see ,you need to be on the receving end of them and you may think diffriently, funny how "100's of million's" of people have gotten along without them in the past "WITH OUT ISSUE'S" seeing at nite.

Your complaining about silver stars? What about all the after market HID kits that are applied to cars and truck alike? Silver stars are not that brite in comparison to hids....maybe you need to take off your sunglass's instead

I put in the Silverstar Headlights the other day, I love them, much brighter and a whiter light, don’t forget to take a Phillips screwdriver and turn the adjuster counter-clockwise a few turns to adjust the beam up higher, I found the factory setting was set way too low.

p.s. Yes you will get a much shorter life expectancy from the brighter light then the less bright OEM’s. burring the candle and both ends so to speak,

Properly adjusted, as any headlight should be, I cannot imagine how the DOT legal SS's brightness can be an issue. Perhaps the guys you've seen "welding" don't have theirs adjusted correctly? Are you sure they're SS's?
A lot of add-on HID's are horrible in that respect, especially when incorrectly installed, as mentioned in other posts in this thread. Those WILL blind you, especially if there's water on the road. Maybe those are the 'welders' you're seeing?

I guess I could just stay home at night.

Obviously your 61 year old eyes work better than my 53's. Now I'm even more depressed about my paunchy, balding, sore back, nothing left to aspire to, really, life. I guess all I have to look forward to is E.D. now. At least there's viagra and cialis and stuff.

Thats a big problem,

We couldn't stop China if we really wanted to. Since the USA has out sourced most or if not all of it's manufacturing to them, we as a nation are in their debt.
It's kind of sad when you sit back and think about we were once a nation of strong manufacturing...and now what do we get to show for it?

what do we have to show for it,fake pill's from an enemy(china)made out of drywall, concret and road paint ,per the dateline report, the same china that we fought in vetnam and the korean war, don't forget we have a lot of people who were not even born when my generation fought in vetnam (early 70's) and the guy's who fought in the korean war are now pushing 80,it would be one thing if the drug's were quality, but there JUNK made out of JUNK and it has killed people, better start a thread about this before we get yelled at for hijacking this one.

lol ok, I see your point, but I guess you missed my point. What I meant to say earlier was the Chinese are sending these inferior products only because we allow them too. Have you been to your local Home Depot or Lowes and looked to see where the manufacturing is done the products we buy? I would think about 90 percent of it coming from China.

As for medicines coming out of China that a serious threat. I'm wondering how can companies here in the USA sell these products and then ignore if as if they didn't know anything about it. Some one within the corporate ladder is making a ton of money.

Poppie unfortunately I hope they do something about these fake pills and bear justice against these crooks who bring them out into the market. But in case you need some Viagra I can send ya some

Hi all. Just a quick note on Silverstars et al... Yes, SS's in all shapes and sizes have suffered a little from short life-span. Yes, Sylvania is aware, and have released a newer version said to/hoping to extend lifespan about 2x. That said, life will not likely ever meet that of 'conventional' halogen lamps, but the visibility trade-off will probably make it worthwhile for most to change...

Also, there are alternatives to SS's for those of you (me among them) who can't see as well with the SS's color temperature. Xtra vision lamps (again, Sylvania) offer much of the benefit (brightness, better visibility, etc.) of SS's, but with a warmer (more yellow) color temp, and better life. Not avail. at the retail level yet, in H13, but with enough demand (screaming herein), a case could be made...
