1993 F150,4X4,351 Best performance for pulling?

I want to dump some cash into my truck to increase the performance for pulling about 6000 lbs. (horse trailer+2 horses).
Plus I just love speed and torque.

I just had a true dual exhaust system put on my 93 F150 with no headers (already been down that road with my old truck, it wasn't worth it). The exhaust system is two carsound cats, magna flow muffers, 2.5" pipe w/h-pipe.

My questions are: What computer chip/module is the best and why? Superchips?

What can I do to increase the performance with the way air is routed into the engine? I can't believe the long path that air has to go through before it finally gets to the intake!

Thanks in advance.
Beth
P.S. My other "car" is a 91 corvette that I bought new and have modified the heck out of: 373 gear ratio, chip, exhaust, high pressure regulator, etc.

First question, which chip is best?? There are only so many operating parameters that can be changed on a gas engine. Just about any chip on the market will: Advance the timing for premium fuel, change the air/fuel ratio to lean the engine out a bit, change the timing curve for performance. Most will raise the fluid pressure in automatic transmissions to cause crisper shifts. Most will increase your horsepower by 10% and the torque by 12-15%. I guess that the correct answer is: the best chip is the one with the warranty that you are comfortable with and is sold by knowledgable techs that you can actually speak to. The online store here sells DiabloSport and Superchips. The tech line is 1-877-399-6417. This line rings in my shop most of the working day, then transfers to my home for tech help. I have talked guys through installations at 10:00 P.M. I find that there are few things as frustrating as talking to machines, but, I do have a machine to answer while we are away. Feel free to call anytime:
Thanks

Thanks for the informative reply, Danny. Your a good salesmen! I have a Hypertech chip in my corvette that I've never had problems with except when it vibrated loose (too many rough roads out here in the AZ desert).

Hypertech sells a power module for $190 (at least through Autozone). They also advertise the low temp thermostat and a power pully. Do you know what this "power pully" is and do you have it (it's $110)?

Regards,
Beth

Beth: We do not sell the low-temp thermostats nor the power pulley. Both of those items are available at almost any parts store for about half of the asking price from chip companies. What the low temp thermostat does is to fool the computer by running the engine at lower temperature. This causes the computer to run the engine richer, more fuel=more power. We prefer to advance the timing, alter the timing curve, change the air/fuel mixture, to create horsepower. By advancing the timing this allows the burn to start sooner for slower burning premium fuel. It is a toss-up as to the power gains with underdrive pulleys. Dyno-wise, very little, if any gains. If I am not mistaken, Ken sells Superchips and DiabloSport chips here on the site for $225.00. With either brand, there is no need for any thermostat or pulley changes.
Thanks
Danny

Danny,

Thanks again for the reply. Ok, so I won't have to change out the thermostat if I go with Superchip. That's definitely an advantage. Their general part#1100 looks like it will work for most applications. What about their part#1300,1400 flip chip? Do you think this is worthwhile for my application? Sometimes I will be pulling my horse trailer and sometimes I'll just want wide open throttle performance for when I'm driving on the freeway without the trailer.

Regards,
Beht

Beth; A flip chip is one chip with two programs. Either program can be accessed by the flip of a switch. The reasons for a flip chip would be:Nitrous, or a vehicle engine that could be harmed by regular gasoline as opposed to premium. There is no need for you to spend the extra money for a flip chip. There is basically only one program for your vehicle as it is presently modified.
Thanks

Danny,

Will my Superchips module eliminate the top end limiter? If you tried to call me yesterday, I was out riding my horses. I'll be at work all day today. The module fits onto the printed circuit board edge connector that can be seem when the computer access panel is removed. That can't be the only mechanical connection is it?
