4.2 double firing?

I read that the 4.2L fires 2 cylinders at the same time, except one of the 2 cylinders is in the "empty" phase of the 4 stroke cycle. Why do they do that? I'm just curious.

Links and knowledge are appreciated!

I'm guessing it's for emissions purposes. Firing the extra time will burn any leftover flammables in the exhaust before it exits.

Nope.

It's called a "Waste Spark System". Google that.

It simply less expensive to manufacture and produce.
