Hi, does anyone know if a 89 F150 4x4 shortbed frame is swappable for a 1984 F150 4x4 shortbed frame? I broke my 89 frame in 4 places and I rather replace the entire frame, then to have it welded. I found a 1984 donor truck, and I was wondering if this is even possible. I understand that the 80-86 body,engine, and drivetrain were different than that of the 87-91 models. The axles in front and back are the same models(d44 & 8.8). The 89 has a 300 engine, 4spd manual tranny, bw1357 transfer case. I believe the 84 has a 351w, Auto Tranny, and a NP 208. I would like to swap only the frame and nothing else.

 

thats a total disassembly. It is possible, it will also take a while...but you can do it.

 

What kind of shape is the '84 frame in, and how did you break your frame in 4 places? I've only heard of broke frames that resulted in some kind of extreme abuse, which also resulted in other damage to parts, but then again I also live in the south where there is hardly any bad rust.

 

Hey Guys, Thanks for your speedy response! My 89 F150 was once a work truck for a Game and Fish Department here in the White Mountains of Arizona. Since I work at the game and fish also, I have an idea of the type of abuse that particular truck went through. Over the years, I've grown attached to it and it's always served me well. Here are some pictures for you. I received the truck with two cracks near the shock mounts and I now have two new frame cracks near the front cab mount. I'm not sure how to post pics in these threads. Sorry if pictures didn't post.
