Coolant temp sensor

Where is the coolant temp sensor located at on the 7.3L engine??? My temp gauge doesn't go all the way to cold, but stays on low end of normal, need to see if it's the sending unit or the gauge...

On the block just ahead of the left head upper corner...... there is a wire loom with 2 wires exiting one is the temp sensor (straight connector) the other is the overheat switch (90* connector) front lower corner of the head. Worst part is it's all located behind the A/C compressor adapter plate.

What did you use to thread those in there? Plumbers tape? The wire going into the boot of my temp light switch is exposed. Can you get those boots at a parts store? I took that temp light switch off tonight and had coolant pouring out. Do I have to burp the system because of that? Will fluid come flying out the temp gauge sending unit? Right now I have the wrong sending unit the parts store gave me.

I used Teflon plumbers paste when I installed them.

Yes both are screwed into the cooling jacket, so you will need to drain several gallons out of the cooling system or take a bath in antifreeze.
