How much damage does it take to total a SD
I wrecked my truck yesterday, the damage is: left side is all dented and creased the mirror is gone, the front is pushed in and to the right, the right side step is gone. and the frame is bent in the front. and was just wondering by that description if it was totaled or not. It is a white 2001 F250 XLT ext cab 4X4 with 42600 miles.

I wrecked my sd 2 months after I bought it new in 2000. a woman pulled out in front of me and I hit her at about 60ish mph. the wreck caused $27,000.00 in damage to my truck yet they would not total it out "that sucked" they told me that the truck was to expensive to just total out.. 2000 F250psd 4x4offroad. the repair shop fixed it all back up with factory painted doors and fenders, new trans , new rearend, new wheels, new bed,and lots of other stuff . the frame was not bent so they got it all fixed like new.

Redford and Mako hit the nail on the head! My father hit a cement wall on the freeway bent the frame and everything. The truck was a mess. Because the F150 was only 4 years old and had 19,000 miles they fixed it. The frame was only $500. Needless, to say before they completed finishing the repairs my dad traded the truck in at the repairing dealer. The truck was $700 shy of being a total the adjuster said. Gee! Imagine that.

Most insurance companies call it totalled when the repairs exceed 75% of the vehicles worth.
So like Mako said, if you have a $40,000 truck and you do $27,000 worth of damage, it is still not "totalled". (just an example)
A bent frame is usually (not always) a good bet to consider it totalled.
You could go to KBB, Edmunds or NADA and find out what your truck is worth (ballpark figure) so you will know about where 75% lands you.

Sorry to hear about your accident & hope noone was hurt.I got $14800 when I totalled my 01 Lariat-had some dress up parts on it + a new 4" lift-insurance company said these did not increase the value of the truck.Hopefully they will either fix yours or you have a nice & fair(huh did I just say that) insurance company.I told them if they could find me a replacement truck that was comparable at THAT price to drop it off at my door-didn't go over too well. They did offer to let me buy the truck back for $3000-so if insurance does total it that may be an option for you with such a low mileage engine. One bit of advice the tow truck driver gave me made sense-do not release the truck to the insurance company until you settle on a price.Mine was obviously totalled tho.The insurance company does not like to pay the storage fees at a yard and they really bugged me from the first call the day of the wreck to release the truck to them. Once the truck goes to them they can take however long they want to settle with you.I have known the tow driver for years and bought lots of parts out of his yard for decent prices so he wasn't just drumming up business,he said he has seen it happen alot and ALOT of people get screwed.I suppose I coulda held out for more $ as 14800 wasn't their first offer-but that paid it off and I was SICK of dealing with them.Anyway a totalled 01 w/auto tranny gave me an excuse to buy an 08 with a standard-waaaayyy happier with the new truck.

With all more miles om your truck they may fix it. I've fixed worse and unless the frame is really creased . Not just pushed to side . Hey Buy it back if they total it you'll get it for salvage cost . And sell it to me .
It depends on insurance Co. And condition of truck and miles do count Cousin is adjuster. If its drivable now it would be back on road in 2 week or less here. And if they go by blue book . You do to. The trucks around here go over blue book . So I'd check into it.
Its your truck and with todays rig they are made to be fixed. Put it on frame machine couple hours and hang new metal . good to go. SO if you want to keep truck and can do.
