Wind Noise
#31
I drove my gfs 2005 Toyota Corolla and man that car is noisy. Almost no noise proofing. You can hear the tires, cars go by, etc. The ambient noise level is much greater than the Expedition. Maybe that's why I can hear the noise from the mirrors. If that wasn't there the cabin would be insanely quiet.

Unfortunately, they were unable to reproduce the brake noise issue. My brakes are still squealing intermittently. I'm trying to determine the pattern (hot, cold, whatever, so I can reproduce for them). It’s not that bad, but something doesn’t appear to be right.<O</O

Just a quick BUMP to anyone with an '07 that hasn't had their exterior mirrors replaced under the TSB.
I have always had some wind noise, but never considered it too bad. I had the Expy at the dealer for a rear seat rattle (replaced the seat frame) and a trim piece that was falling off (above the tailgate) and asked my service rep to perform the TSB for mirror replacement. She didn't even blink.
It took about a week for the mirrors to come in and then two days for them to be painted (I have a Limited). I just drove the truck home from the dealer and the difference is PRONOUNCED. The truck's interior noise level has dropped by at least 1/3. I had no idea how bad it was. I really can't see a difference in the mirrors themselves, but they clearly have fixed something about the design or production.
As a side note, the redesigned Escape that they gave me as a loaner last night is actually pretty nice. I was impressed.
Just thought I would pass this on - I suggest anyone with an affected 07 mention the TSB the next time they are in service.

Problem is even with the new mirrors, they still make a wind rush sound, especially driving into the wind. My Expy did not need new mirror, but the dealer replaced them and the outer weatherstripping to help the A pillar/mirror wind rush sound. When the wind is at your back I can hardly hear a thing. Funny how they market wind tunnel test to reduce wind noise. My older Expys were much quieter than my 07.

Just got my 2007 Eddie Bauer EL back after having to leave it with the dealer for three days. I brought it in for routine maintenance and mentioned the wind noise problem I have. I also had a copy of the two TSB's with me which I handed to the service advisor. He thanked me for having them and attached them to the repair order. Well three days later I have two new mirrors and two new glass window runs and the best part is NO MORE WIND NOISE -- the cabin is super quiet. What a difference. These new mirrors are designed much better than the ones I had (my EL had a production date of 9/06).
Thanks to all for posting the issue and the TSB's.

There are two... here is a link to the first (suggests replacing glass runs)

The second one (which suggests replacing the mirrors) I don't have a link to, but here is the text. I hope this helps.
