Where to Brake at?

Its time for my brakes to be serviced, but I am weary of taking it to any old Brake shop. What concerns me is the Auto-Lock Hubs I have and I really don't no one messing with them if they don't know what they are doing. My question is basically, should I just get my brakes serviced at a Ford Dealership and face the inflated price knowing it will get done the right way, or should I take it to a nationally known chain like Just Brakes, Sears, NTB or some other widely known company. Any help would be appreciated from anyone out there who had to get some brakes serviced on thier bronco...

I have mine done at a Goodyear Service Center. Of course, I am friends with the manager, and that helps, but they have always done a great job on my brakes. It looks like I have the same set-up as you ('96 w/auto-hubs).

City Brake if you don't have to have the rotors turned why not just do them yourself. They aren't that hard. If you have to have the rotors turned just get you a Haynes manual and follow the directions. It's pretty easy. I have done several. I have actually done it so many times that I am actually pretty quick at it now.... If you do it yourself just pay special attention to how all the hub nuts and rings come off. I always lay a piece of cardboard down and place everything on it the way it came off. There is on nut that has a little nipple on it and one ring with a bunch of holes you have to get a whole lined up with the nipple. It's a little teadious but nothing major. A Haynes manual will tell you all about.

Do them yourself if you can. Dont Know about yours but on many you do not have to take off the auto-locks to get the rotor off. The Haynes book will tell you this. Advance Auto Parts sells them for less than $15.00 and you should have one any way. If not look more at the man doing the work than at the name of the man he works for. Only the better ones are "ASE certifed". Most times the larger chain stores are looking for repiet buisnes and try to keep at least one very solid break man on staff at all times. good luck.
