I heard somewhere that the MatTracks distribute the weight so well that a vehicle can go off into deep powder like a snowmobile. I wish they'd take some pictures of itin action. The pictures they show are not very impressive. Driving on a snow covered road? Heaven forbid...

If I remember correctly you can swap between the tracks and you regular tires without doing anything major. The people I have talked to that used them seemed to think they were very well made but only needed for very specific occasions and even then a full size truck with tracks might not be the best.

I DON'T actually know

but I have the impression it's not too hard.

Maybe there is a way on that page to contact the dude and get some other shots.

To Downriver Thunder! Can I PLEASE move into your spare bedroom with my three dogs? I LOVE the snow! I can't stand it here in NC!

Those tracks swap out just like a tire. They bolt to the hubs like a wheel and use the regular brakes to slow you down. It's a pretty neat set up. I saw a thing on the Discovery Channel about them.

you can see more at www.mattracks.com

Take a guess at what a set would cost you for an Excursion ....... times up .... $32k-$36k depending on how you outfit them.

That's Thirtytwo Thousand Dollars. You can buy a used excursion for 1/3 of that ... LOL.

Mount Washington has the same setup on Econoline vans. I'd post a pic or shortcut but for some reason I don't have permission. I've seen a lot of these setups for trail groomers for snowmobile clubs. Been around at least 15yrs. Mostly Suburbans in the early 90's.
