Water pump ?

Hi i have an 1995 psd and the water pump seems to be leaking there is a little coolant on my oil pan seal coming from what looks like the water pump . There is little to No play in the fan where it meets the pump but i still think its the pump ? If it turns out it is the pump then where is the best place to get one anygood after market ones ? or should i just get one from ford ? Does NAPA sell a good pump ?

I got one from Shucks w/ a lifetime warranty 2 - 3 yrs. ago.

The hole is just a drain for coolant that gets by the seal when the bearing wears out.

Don't be surprised to find the thermostat bolts frozen in the pump housing.

Also check the upper heater on the top of the water pump. If that is leaking it can look similar to the water pump going. I got my water pump from Autozone and haven't had any problems. If you have to change the water pump be sure and rent/borrow the clutch fan tool from somewhere. You can't get the clutch fan assembly off easily with out it. I bought the tool cuz it was only $45. It's not a difficult repair just time consuming. I also took my radiator out also and had it flushed and new gaskets put in it. It's easy to do with everything apart already. Good luck. Let me know if you need any help or info on the repair.

Usually the seal gives out and starts letting water pass by it. Then over a period of time the water washes the grease out of the bearing and the bearing starts to fail, this is when you get play in the shaft. Sometimes you have to take the serpentine belt off before you can feel any play in the fan shaft.

Even if the water pump rubber gasket is bad replace the whole pump. You have it that far down. If the bearings goes in the pump it will do it at the most inconvienent time. If the bearings sieze it could take out your belt. It should take you about 3.5 hours to replace the pump. And thats taking your time.
