The PH8A will fit if the engine is set up for spin on filters. I think that they came from
Ford in 1959 with spin on filters, but there are always exceptions.

If you can get it to start, don't run it for long. The rear main seal is rope and will scorch because it has dried out. Running it for short periods might allow oil to re-soak the rope seal and help it from scorching.

I would use synthetic oil because it is thinner and will flow into all the parts.

Be sure to add some STP Oil treatment with ZDDP.

thanks pcmenten,
the rope seal is good to know.
i plan on replacing plugs, squirting a little oil in cylinders, drain old oil/filter. turn over by hand.
drain gas tank and check the dist. points, pllug wires etc. drain radiator and replace t-stat.
check clutch fluid and brake fluid/master.

we'll see what happens in couple weeks.

Ford made an adapter kit to convert sock/cannister filters to spin on type. This is the entire kit, all you'll need. 272, 292, 312

B7A-6882-A Adapter Kit, Spin On Oil Filter
