351 and a C4?
This is really a beginner question but I was wondering if a 351 Cleveland will bolt up to a C4. I already have a 302 holed up in my 56 but I'm lookin to give the truck some more umph and I can get a 351. Also would the motor mounts work (custom for volare clip) or would I need to change them? Thanks

351 and a C4?
LAST EDITED ON 27-Mar-01 AT 06:01 PM (EST)[p]I've got a 351c in my 53 and the engine came with a c4 from the factory. (the guy said it came out of a torino). The motor mounts are the same as a 289/302/351w. You will have to change your exhaust, and I found 351c headers for a 73 mustang fit good except I had to cut the original crossmember in the back. (but I have the original beam axle so they might hit your steering shaft). I was just telling a guy that I saw a 390 with the front sump and the volare suspension. But if you do have a clearance problem with the pan, you could get a rear sump oil pan from a 351m/400. Get the pump pickup tube and the main cap stud to go with it.

yes, the 351C will bolt in the same spot as a 289,302,351W. I have used front sump oilpans on Volare' and Camaro clips. If you want the engine down low, the 351M,400 rearsump oilpan was available on Econoline vans for sure. Very rare though. The 4x4's from the mid to late 70's might have had a rearsump also. You can also get them from aftermarket places like Moroso or Hamburger's.
