Need Advice on a 52 F1.
I'm thinking of buying a 1952 f1 truck. I have a 48 F1 I'm working on know, so if I decide to buy the 52 the 48 will have to go. The 52 is in very good shape. It is all original condition. It has not been street rodded out. It has the flathead V8 in it, but it hasn't ran in a year. The guy said it ran good when he parked it. He said the motor had a knock in it and he thought it had spon a rod bearing so he pulled the oil pan off to check it out. Turned out the bearings was good. He thinks it may be the rod that runs the fuel pump. He said a guy told him they will make a knocking noise when they start to wear. Now the good points about the truck. The truck is a dark blue color and the paint looks very good on it. The front end has been rebuilt as far as the king pin and bushings. New brakes and Master cylinder, and the generater on the flathead has been rebuilt. All the glass is good as far as no cracks. Just alittle smoke around the edges. He has a new glass kit that goes with the truck, even the wing glass with the chrome on them. He has a new head liner kit to and he said his truck came with the door panels that had the card board panels on them to. He said it was the 5 star cab, and something about it had extra chrome that goes on the truck. The truck came with 2 horns instead of one. The seat it in good shape, it is a dark brown in color. It has 4 brand new 16" tires on it with the original wheels and hub caps, which if I bought the truck I would take those off and put a set of nice mags on it. Basiclly I would have to put the oil pan back on it and see if the fuel pump rod is the problem so I could get it running. I went to see the truck and all I could see was the bed and rear fenders. The rest was covered up. I called him and he said the cab and front end was 2 times as good as the bed and rear fenders. All in all it would make a VERY good driver the way it is know. Needs very little work to put it on the road. But in order for me to get it I would have to sale my 48 F1. He is asking $2500 dollars for the 52. To get my 48 in the same shape as the 52 it would take every bit of $2500 to get my truck to where the 52 is know. Not counting how many years it would take me to get my 48 in the same shape. Right know I just don't have the time to work on it like I would like to. I can buy the truck for $2000 dollars cash, and it has a good title. The 48-50 is my favorite truck but my dad had a 52 when I was younger and I loved that truck. To me it is worth saleing my 48 to get the 52, plus it would get me out of alot of work that I really don't have the time to do right know with my kids being young. If I got this truck I could enjoy the truck with my son who is 2yrs old and loves old trucks. Plus I could do some work to the 52 and drive it to. Let me know what your guys think about the truck. I'm going back to look at the truck better and I will post some pics of it for you guys. Is the 52 in that kind of shape, is $2000-$2500 a decent price or is it to much?

I second Randy Jack. BUY IT! I paid $750 for my 48 in rough shape. I probably have another $2500 in it and it's still a non running garage troll. I'd love to have a nice stocker to drive while I street rodded my 48. BTW, my dad had a 49 when I was a kid. He sold it in 1969 and the memories of that truck are what drove me to buy my 48.

It would be worth the trouble to tow it home and check out that flatmotor thoroughly before trying to fire it up; there could be something else wrong with it. The fuel pump rod can wear and make noise but it would not be a knock. The oil pump could be going out or something similar, that would be easy to fix before the engine is further damaged.
Otherwise it sounds like a GREAT deal!

I'm going tomorrow to look at the truck, he's going to let me see the rest of the truck. I will take some pics of the truck and post them so you guys can tell me what you think. I've thought about it all day and I'm going to try to work out a deal on the truck. I really hate to sale the 48 but the 52 is really to good of a truck to pass up. I hope it works out.
