Oil Pump Working?

Working on a project 7.3 DI engine. No oil pressure reading when cranking. Switched out what I believe is the op sensor on the top front of the block (looks like the op sensor in my 302)... still no reading. Register about 5.3 V when key is on at connector fitting. No oil squirts when I leave the connector out and crank. Oil level is good. Block heater feeds into the oil filter housing but the oil is cold. Coolant is warm... is there a coolant feed there too? Appreciate the help in advance. Josh

That is the oil pressure sensor from your discription, it is located on top of the HPOP (high pressure oil Pump) I do not get an oil pressure reading until my truck fires. there should be oil in the area, if there is not pretty much full oil there the truck will not fire, as the oil actuates the fuel injectors, if there is no oil in there fill it up and try again. Good luck

Makes sense

Will try that. Truck sat for a long time... I could see oil draining out of the HPOP. Thanks for the help. Will update soon.

There is an issue with oil draining out of HPOP if that is the case you will have a hard start every time, i have seen posts that say there should be about a quart up in there all the time.

yes add a quart or so of oil to that top reservior. It may prime the engine enough to get everything flowing. Also there is a oil pressure plug down near the block heater that you could tap to see whats going on. If the system hasn't been primed then where you are testing could be problematic to getting an accurate measurement.

the block heater heats the coolant not the oil. that is the oil cooler right there by the oil filter that the cord runs into.
