57-60 F100 with dual cast iron manifolds?
Good Evening All,
Can the Y-block, ECH-9431-A, left side, cast iron, dual exhaust manifold be routed between the original steering column and original 3-speed manual shift linkage on a 57-60 F-100 and not cause interference with the shifting or other problems?
Thanks,
Dave

Dual manifolds
Dave, there are several options. One,pay through the nose for a set of "Ram's Horn" manifolds that came off the larger trucks of that era. They are now priced outrageously because everyone wants them for their nostalgic look. Also, they are frequently in rough shape, being cracked, pitted,or having broken or stripped studs.Maybe you'll get lucky and score a set off a truck that's been long abandoned.
Second, you could use two right side manifolds. How you do that is to remove the crossover pipe, and cap the hole on the right manifold where the pipe would have connected.Replace the left side manifold with the other right side manifold. Then take it to an exhaust shop, where you can have them bend a pipe down and under the manifold for the second exit.Cap the unused hole on that manifold, also.Does that make sense? You should be able to use the archives to find a photo. It really isn't too offensive looking.
Or,your third option is to buy a set of headers. This is usually cheaper than Ram's horns.Sandersons and Reds are two reputable manufacturers for the Y-Block headers. At any rate, don't make the mistake that I did, that is, to buy a set of dual manifolds for a car. They won't work on your truck. Steve

57-60 F100 dual cast iron exhaust possible?
Good Evening All,
I'm responding to my own post in order to keep it refreshed and on the first page. I'm sorry if you opened this thread thinking you'd see something new about this 57-60 question.
I have purchased the left side cast iron exhaust manifold I mentioned in the original posting. (For those not familiar, this part has the exhaust outlet routed down and rearward instead of up and forward on the original pick-up motors). My truck is up on jackstand and the sheet metal on the front clip is coming off slowly. I haven't yet been able to remove the original left side, forward routed, exhaust manifold to test fit the left side, rearward mounted exhaust manifold. But, I can imagine the the exhaust pipe will fit into the space between the transmission linkage on the steering column and the 3-speed manual transmission.
I understand the new exhaust pipe will have to be a custom fabrication. I know some have said this car-based manifold will not work on trucks. I respectfully remain convinced this original Ford product can be made to work satisfactorily. I am hoping someone had a positive experience and could give me a hopeful sign!
Thanks, Dave
